Your organisation already has a global electrical safety standard. It has been applied across factories and projects in several countries, and your teams understand it. When a new project begins in Germany, replacing that system with an entirely separate rulebook would create confusion and duplicate work. Using it without review, however, may leave important local responsibilities or procedures unresolved.
The sensible objective is not to choose between the global standard and German requirements, as global valid standards match parts of German standards. It is to create one operating model in which both work together; especially if you bring a foreign structure.
Corporate Standards Are a Starting Point, Not the Final Answer
A mature corporate standard brings real value. It can establish common terminology, minimum controls, approval routes and expectations for contractors. It supports consistent decisions across sites and makes lessons learned available beyond one project.
Its limits usually appear at the interfaces. A global document may use roles that have no exact German equivalent. It may define electrical competence through licences issued in another jurisdiction. It examines how competence is assessed and how authorisation is linked to the actual task.
Work procedures deserve the same treatment. A global lockout and tagout process may already meet much of the required outcome. The review should identify how it addresses disconnection, securing against reconnection, verification of absence of voltage, stored energy, earthing where required, and protection against adjacent live parts.
Testing, commissioning, energisation and live working require particular care. These activities can sit outside routine maintenance procedures, even though they create significant electrical risk. Language, emergency communication and evidence retention must also reflect the project team that will apply the system.
Integrate Local Measures without Creating a Parallel System
The best result is often a controlled German annex to the corporate standard. It can define local terminology, legal entities, responsibility interfaces, qualification criteria and any additional work controls. Deviations must have an owner and an approval route. Reviews should confirm that the local annex remains aligned as the project moves from construction to operation.
